  1. BMX suck for riding any distance. 1 gear, 1 speed SLOW. You can't sit for c**p. If you need to ride over a mile get a hybrid or MTB.

  2. It would be OK for shorter commutes, like 1 or 2 miles. A co-worker rode one that distance and had no problems. Get a larger bike for longer rides so you will have a comfortable saddle height.

  3. Any bike can be good for commuting if it fits you.  I started on a Walmart brand mt bike because it is all I could afford.  From the money I saved by not driving, I moved up to a hybrid (trek 7000).  They both went the same speed (go to the bike shop and put slick tires on the mt bike to go faster ...about $30), but the hybrid is more comfortable and has more options.  Don't forget to get your fenders if you intend to commute on wet roads.

  4. Of course not. What is good? Almost any full size bike where you can sit a pedal. many people use MTBs, road bikes or hybrids. No one uses BMX to commute (except a kid who lives a short distance from school etc.)

  5. A bmx bike can be used for commuting if that's all you have to work with.  Commuting bikes normally have middle weight tires, a luggage rack, yes fenders, and a removable luggage bag.  Tools and knowhow for changing a flat tire, ..yes it does happen!  Where will you store it at work?  How are you going to keep some low-life from deciding to steal it?  Always always wear a helmet and follow the normal traffic rules especialy stop at all red lights and don't go against traffic!  Sometimes a bike commuter is faster than the cars.  Pays for it self and you get physically fit at the same time.  Be Alert!
