Its a Diamondback ViperX dont know what year it is sorry. I actually made a short video on the problem...

  1. Wow. Well, first you definitely need to lube it with bicycle grease or white lithium grease. Engine oil won't do it.

    Secondly, normally you have to "adjust" the bearing tightness, though it's hard to see your crank in the light.

    Basically, for all the ball bearings on a bicycle, you tighten down on them just enough so that the part in question doesn't wiggle back and forth. Any tighter and it can't rotate correctly, any looser and the part wiggles.

    So usually there are two things to turn - one tightens down on the bearings, the other locks the other in place once you have the setting right.

    PS it looks like you may have a single piece crank which is unusual these days. I've never fiddled with one myself.
