  1. Mountain bikes are measured in inches, while road bikes are measured in cm.

He'd need about a 17 to 19" frame on a mountain bike, and about a 52-55cm road bike frame.

  2. Take him on a mystery birthday tour that starts at the bicycle shop where he can find one that fits. Having a bicycle that fits properly is the most important part of buying a bicycle.

Be sure you have a firm price in mind or you may end up spending much more than you want, though.

Where the mystery tour ends is up to you!

  3. I'd say about 56cm for a road bike frame. He can adjust the stem, seatpost himself :)

  4. I am about 4'11" and i ride a Small. So you boyfriend would probably need a medium sized frame. You can also have a professional fit him to a bike, which might be what he needs. Just find out what your boyfriend likes then ask a sales associate to fit him to it. Hope you find the right bike!
