Bike gears?

My bike changes gear fine, but only changes gear while the bike is moving.

For example, if i had to an emergency stop and i was in 'x' gear, i wouldnt be able to go into first again without a few mnutes of rocking back and forward and biting points to get the bike into first.

Also, if i do a hill start, the bike judders up the hill and goes to stall..

any clues? thanks.

  1. Needs a new clutch basket & plates.

  2. You said Bike gears.

    Did you mean Motorbike gears?

  3. I'll go along with the first 2 answers.

Red Mick - a CBT in regards to this problem is as much use as a chocolate teapot as 99%+ of CBTs are done on automatic 50cc mopeds.

  4. Clutch basket is shot.

The clutch basket gets "notched up" from rapid starts or excessive loads when starting from a dead stop. Also from rapid deceleration in the lower gears.

  5. The best way to get back to neutral is with the engine running, hold on front or rear brake, slightly release the clutch lever while applying light pressure on the gear shift until you find neutral.

Hill start problems are usually clutch and revs control, you need to work at it, or get someone to show you.

Have you been on any riding courses? Even CBT should show you an answer to your problems

                Good Luck

  6. Gotta go with the clutch answers Cuz The plates are prob warped from heat

  7. clutch needs adjusting
