Bike problem?

i just got a $100 bike from K mart so i can bike to my work instead of walking, and i got exhausted by it.

is it because that i havent ridden a bike for 6 years,

or is it because the bike had a flat tire,

or is it because the handle was too short for me,

or is it because the tire was too small?

its been so long since i had ridden a bike, but i still remember that i didnt get this tired by riding a bike.

whats wrong with it?

if i were to change a bike, do u guys have any preference on what i should look for?

  1. First, get a real bike from a bike shop, not a toy from KMart.

They will fit it for you, etc.

You will have to ride it to get into shape.

  2. The problem is buying a bike from K-Mart in the first place. All bikes from K-Mart are junk. I've never heard of a bike with a "handle"... Riding a bike with a flat tire will be very tiring...

Tire size isn't an issue. Unless you bought a childs bike that's too small.

I suggest you go to a real bike shop and buy a real bike.

You got tired because you're not used to riding. We can get very soft in six years !

A bike shop will make sure the bike fits you.

  3. I think all of the reasons you gave were contributions to your problem.  I think you already know that we are going to have to learn to ride bicycles, and that you probably need a better one if you are going to do so.  You should check ebay.com and buy a bike there.  If you are patient, and pump up the kmart bike tire, and keep working on it in the meantime, you should be able to find a good bike on ebay in the same price range.  Also you need to decide what type of bike you are looking for.  Mountain, road, bmx and single speed bikes ect.  You need to get the right size bike also.  You can go to a bike shop and look at their bikes to find out what size bike you want.   Lots of bike shops carry used bikes as well, and you could get a better bike there than at kmart, but I doubt you will get as low as a hundred dollars at a shop.

  4. One word...YES

It could be all these factors. I would of saved the $ and bought a better bike. Maybe you can return it. If it is your only mode of mechanical transportation, then try to get it adjusted to your specification. Make sure when you sit down and pedal that you have a slight bend in the knee. Raise the stem so you will not be so crouched over. Pump the tire to the recommended psi so you can get the minimum rolling resistance. Wear comfortable clothes. You haven't ridden in 5yrs, so you might be slightly out of shape. Keep riding and build up your stamina. Later on when you do buy a better bike, you will ride like the wind (road or hybrid with larger wheels 700c).
