Question:

Bike ride to work - where to store my bike while there?

I live a few blocks from my job at the mall and it is senseless to DRIVE but sometimes too hot to walk (I live in Florida) to work. I ride my bike a lot and want to ride to work, but the mall is under construction and they've removed the bike racks until December. It seems silly that there are no places to store my bike! Lots of people ride bikes around here. I've called the mall and talked to guest services and they didn't know what to tell me. I could lock it up to a tree while I'm working, but I don't want it to get rained on. I also don't know the laws about chaining my bike to mall property. Anyone know what I can do? Any suggestions? Seems like the city should provide bike racks!

  1. just get a water bottle, i sugest a insulated one and walk

  2. Isn't there somewhere in your work you can stash it - store room, break room, hall way? Ask your boss where you can put it that wouldn't be too much of a pain.

I have always brought my bike into work with me and kept it in my office or in some back hallway.

  3. I agree the city should provide bike racks, but it might not be there property which would make it the malls responsibility. You might want to talk to one of the superiors at your work and see if they will let you use a broom closet or something along those lines. Otherwise I would keep annoying the mall directors and get other people to join you in the battle until they actually do something about it. I'm sure you are not the only one having the same problem so the more people on your side the better. Your only other option is to lock it outside and wrap your seat in a plastic bag so you don't get the wet butt on your ride and keep your chain oiled and lubed at all times. Good of you to ride your bike.
