  1. Look to upgrade to lighter moving parts. Most importantly wheels.

    Get some clipless pedals too.

  2. I had a look at the spec for this bike which I saw selling for $900 at the link below.  It looks well equipped and it would be costly to lighten it significantly. The forks have carbon blades although they have a steel steerer which will make them relatively heavy, say 600grams(1lb 5oz). For example, a reasonable set of replacement carbon forks such as ITMmillenum would save about 200grams( 7 ounces) at a cost of about $120 plus fitting charges( say $40).

I note that the tyres fitted are 700X25 which are heavy and wide, hence high rolling resistance so, If I were you  I would simply go for a nice light pair of 700X23 tyres and lighter tubes pumped to about 100psi or so. This would have the most effect on the speed by reducing rolling resistance and improving the overall responsiveness of the ride. I like Vittoria tires, see the link below.  Michelin or Continental are also very good.

Don't forget the speed of a bike is mostly dependent on the power the rider puts in and that will need training .

Lose a few pounds by dieting or riding the bike a lot. :o)
