Question:

Bike valve won't take air?

I'm trying to fill my daughter 12 inch bike tire. Someone had overinflated it slightly and the inner tire was off the wheel. So I deflated the tire, reset it back on the wheel, and now am trying to repump it with a regular hand pump. The valve adapter fits but I cannot pump air into the tire. I cannot push the hand pump down at all because of the pressure. What could be the problem?

  1. needle valve is bad can buy new needle and valve tool from automotive store-almost cheaper to buy new tire-check with any tire store they should do it for you for a few dollars

  2. Your not moving the little needle in the mddle for some reason.

take it  to a gas station

  3. Sounds like the valve is damaged or the valve stem is pinched between the rim and tire. Its an easy fix though.  You can either take it to a bicycle shop and they will replace the inner-tube for you or you can replace it yourself which isn't that hard.  Just buy a new 12" bicycle inner tube at a Wal-mart, Target etc or a bicycle shop.  You will need to remove the wheel from the bike using pliers or the proper size wrenches.

  4. Check the pin inside the tire valve, make sure there is no visible dirt or debris, such as a small rock, piece of wood, etc caught between the outer wall of the valve, and the pin; see if you can press it down with a small screwdriver or something. That is the actual valve that opens the seal and allows air in or out. If you cannot make it go down it may be dirty or corroded, try spraying some wd-40 or liquid wrench, etc.. on it and try to work it up and down. Also, check the hand pump off of the tire, and make sure it pumps freely and you can fee air coming out of the hose, sounds obvious, but sometimes its the simple things. Hope you get fixed!
