  1. You can never beat the advice of an expert. Just call http://xtrememinimotors.com and tell them you got a bike from them and its broken. Just a great way to get free advice and maybe even free parts.

  2. Always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions. We need all of that info to give an informed answer.

Do the points get powered by the battery, or the magneto?

Either the battery is going dead, or the magneto is not operating properly.

  3. It might be as simple as a ground cable being loose. I would check all your connections first, before going to spend $$$. Make sure no open wires are touching frame.

  4. Bad coil

  5. Maybe the new ignition coil is bad too...

It sure sounds like a bad ignition coil...

Run the bike til it dies (or put the coil in the oven at 200*F for 20 min) and then check the coil resistance with an Ohm meter. The primary resistance for a standard (non-electronic) ignition should be around 5 or 6 Ohms. The secondary windings should be somewhere around 20K - 25K Ohms.

If the coil resistance is within specs, look for an ignition breaker and/or a problem in the primary ignition wiring.
