i been biking a ton lately and my muscles have gotten a lot bigger in my legs. But yesterday i read somewhere that there is a such thing as an "endurance" muscle which doesnt make you any stronger. Is this true? and is that what i have gained in my legs?

  1. There are fast-twitch and slow-twitch muscles.  The fast-twitch are for speed and power, your slow-twitch are better for endurance.  You can notice that road riders tend to be leaner and lanky while sprinters have thicker weight-lifter thighs.

Along with that, there's genetics, and although you can prepare for one or the other, some people just can never over come the genetics part.  There's also the length of your limbs, people with longer limbs will never get that 'bulked up' look, but can be come strong.

With different types of riding you can develop a good balance of each.

Since you just started riding you're just building up your legs in general.  Depending on how you ride, you will go either way, riding hard fast and spring you'll prob'ly bulk up more, ride longer and more consistenly and you'll be strong, but won't have that power compact power look.

  2. endurance is not a muscle endurance is what you call it when u begin to run faster and longer without pain
