  1. if you go every day for five miles definately try uphill for calfs and stomache

  2. Everyone I know (on forums and in person) who got into cycling always lost 15-30 lbs.

5 miles is a good start, push a little more each week and try things like riding to get groceries, work, or just hang out at a coffee shop.

Keep it up! Start slowly and eventually you'll rack up the miles in no time, and you'll need to buy new clothes!

  3. The best exercise is one you enjoy doing. If you keep it up you will get in shape.

  4. Put it this way. until I was 19 I cycled everywhere. I stopped when I went away to college then work and life got in the way. here's the thing. I'm 33 now and despite very little exercise over the last few years my legs are STILL very strong and very toned. I never lost what i built with all that cycling. I just bought a bike again and I'm looking forward to getting back in shape.

And as the first answerer said, the best exercise is one you enjoy. You love cycling so keep doing it. try increasing your mileage a little or making your ride a little tougher.

It's also good to get to know others who love cycling. Share your passion and you'll find there's a whole community of diverse and interesting people drawn together by their common love for cycling.

    Ride on!

  5. ya definately u will ...... well 5 miles is a long distance but try harder increase ur distance and rember nothing is impossible !!!

  6. I do exactly the same! 5 miles to one place and then back = 10 miles a day. But cycling doesnt concentrate on just one part of your body. I am trying to do the same, and what i do is cycle a few miles and change the route so that there are some hills and headwinds to cycle into. Then once you have found those, get into the low streamline position, so that your knees push up into your tummy, and your tummy fat will decrease more because of the pressure from the legs hitting the fat and therefore, your tummy will eventually get flatter and smaller. Takes time though.

    Hope i helped

    Happy ridings

  7. 5 miles is a puny distance.  I could finish 5 miles under 15 minutes.  Thats not even a warm-up for some cyclists.  Did you know that professional cyclists on tours spin on a trainer for 30 minutes before they even begin each stage of the tour?  And they usually cruise along for another 30 minutes before they even start the actual race.

Running for 15 minutes could be a decent work out but on a bicycle you are definitely having it easier with the ability to coast and the effort it takes to continue the exercise (much less than running).

You should try 15 miles a day and the goal should be to complete those 15 miles in an hour (I am assuming you dont have a road bike).  If you actually have a road bike then you should bike 30 miles every day and try to accomplish this well under two hours (goal is to reach 20mph average speed).

I love riding my bike too.  5 miles is not much of a distance though.

  8. Haha! Me too. It's very relaxing :)

Sadly, I don't think that any exercise will target just one part of your body. It'll affect different parts at different times. Sorry :)
