  1. biking is a different sport than running but it i think can some times make your legs and breathing if you train hard enough

  2. Biking is the best type of cross training for running(some may say swimming).  I have been injured for the past month, and have been cycling instead of running.  As long as you make the cycling aerobic and a challange on your legs, you will se improvement.  A friend of mine ran twice last summer, cycled the other days(hes a national champ in cycling, so that helped) and this cross country season won his conference (running in the mid 15 min range)

As long as its aerobic and works your legs, you will, se improvement.

  3. Any physical activity or exercise is beneficial. However, when you ride your bike it works different muscles in upper legs.

It tends to build up and work the front of your thigh, and when you run you tend to work the back of your thigh muscles.

    Hope this helps! =)

  4. cycling has built up the strength in my knees.

  5. Any form of exercise is beneficial for running.  Biking is no exception.  If you were to add biking to your workouts it would definitely help running.  One thing I would not do though would be to replace running with biking, for the reason that biking uses some different muscles and it also shortens you stride.  The most beneficial part of biking for me is that it really helps hill running.  Hope this helps

You will find that biking will increase your stamina (endurance) and your leg strength (=speed).

Presuming you bike hard, getting your heart rate up, and long, say for an hour or so, you will be contributing to your heart size and strength - which basically means that your heart can pump more blood faster throughout your body, carrying oxygen and nutrients to your muscles and removing carbon dioxide and waste products from those muscles better and faster.  All of this contributes to your running stamina.

This last year I took up Spinning and biking and found that this quadricep-stressing effort has lead to the highest leg strength I've had in seven or eight years.  I believe you'll find through trail biking the same increased leg strength, which will only lead to you experience greater comfort running longer distances faster, and even able to sprint shorter distances faster.

    Phil

P.S., a number of years ago the fastest 40+ marathon runner - who did 2:10 - didn't start running til his thirties.  Prior to that, he was an international class cyclist.

  7. when you ride a bike it will help your running by far it gets you ready for long distance, but it doesnt help for short distance it think
