  1. I actually help run a couple fitness facilities and i can say not only are they great for getting in shape but if the instructor is even better at motivating you then you will not only love the class but will love the new you.  As far as what you do in the class, the instructor will take you through different scenarios to mimic up hill riding, sprint riding, and so one, just dont be afraid to do it.

  2. Yes, they are hard workouts and great fun, especially if you like working out to music. Go to a beginners class to learn how and make sure your spin bike is set up properly for you- the instructor should help you the first time.

  3. I've done spinning and I've done the new X-bike (the handle bars move side to side to mimic real bike riding, so you get a bit of an upper body workout).

Your heart rate will be up there - in regular spinning, sometimes mine would reach 170-175 bpm.  I typically don't like the first 5-10 as you start to work up a sweat and heart rate goes up, but once you're there it's fine.  Just make sure you have a towel and water, the bikes have a water bottle holder on them.  You will burn calories and you will sweat.

  4. Yes. I go to one regularly. It lasts about an hour. The bikes have resistance k***s on them. During the ride the instructor will tell you to turn them to the right or left. To increase or decrease resistance. You will also have to ride standing up sometimes. Some bikes have computers on them that measure speed and heart rate. The instructor will tell you what speed you should be on. Sometimes you will sprint other times you will go at a constant rate slow but at a heavy resistance.  If you dont have a computer just look at the foot speed of someone who does and try to match it. Very grueling. Take a water bottle.
