Bill Hall secures a one year $600,000 contract with New York Yankees – MLB News
According to a leading sports website, Bill Hall has mentioned on his social media website that his deal with New York Yankees is official now. Hall is very happy after signing a one-year Minor League deal with the club he likes the most.
Last season, the striker displayed some high quality hitting skills to make a name. For his substantial performances, he has been awarded a one-year $600,000 dollar contract by the Yankees. The 32-year-old will also receive performance based incentives and bonuses.
The striker showed great composure, mental toughness and determination last season as he hit .210 in 62 games. He will be hoping to make the most of available opportunities in his tenure with the Yankees to earn another huge pay day at the end of the 2012 season.
According to sources, Hall will also have an opportunity to make it to the Major League to fill the available backup in-fielder spot. The Yankees have also shown interest in acquiring Ramiro Pena and Brandon Laird. The duo will be Hall’s main competitors for the final roster spot.
However, Yankees' officials stated that the deal is unlikely to have any impact on the teams search for a designated hitter. Manager Joe Girardi stated in an interview that the Yankees are looking to sign on a left handed designated hitter such Raul Ibanez, Eric Chavez, Johnny Damon or Hideki Matsui. To be able to trade during the season, the club is looking for the cheapest option before the start of Spring Training.
The club is still in talks with Chavez’s agents and the deal could be finalised in the next few days. Chavez batted brilliantly last season to hit two home-runs and 26 RBI’s. He has improved his game play considerably over the last few years and he is a great team-mate to have.
However, his fitness and health has always remained an issue for the Yankees as he played in only 58 games last season. If Chavez fails to get a contract with the Yankees, Hall will have a great chance to secure a permanent place as an in-fielder.
