Bill Lawry - the chirp, the tweet and the knack of injecting life into the gentleman’s game - Part 1 - Opinion
Cricket is a sport which is blessed in its true right. The unpredictable nature of the game has given ample room for analysis, conclusions being drawn and facts which are unearthed, toed with and spoken about. It is also a sport that has been blessed with
an array of erudite commentators which have distinct styles, flavors and tastes. Many of them have delighted cricket fans, whenever they have turned on their television sets. One man however, would stand out as the undisputed legend in the commentary box.
He has managed to combine his distinct tweak with the sport of cricket in such a remarkable manner, that it is hard to imagine Australia’s Channel 9 commentary team without him. His unique style has helped him gain a massive fan following which is wide and
distinct, where his recognizable voice draws hundreds of fans towards their television sets.
That man is http://www.senore.com/Cricket/William-Morris-Lawry-c97617. He is known as ‘Bill’ Lawry and has been in the commentary box for decades. He is a Victorian and a proud one at that. His intense love for racing pigeons and his knack of animating proceedings has made him the most entertaining
commentator that the world has ever seen.
He has a distinctly unique accent, which is so unique, that even his countrymen find it hard to follow him. Yet Lawry’s media career has continued to help him gain fame and a massive fan following. His well known clichés such as ‘ Got Em!’ when a bowler
strikes or ‘ It’s all happening!’, when a chaotic passage of play is taking place, have been parodied by a number of people who consider his style to be symphonic to the ear. In truth, it is hard to imagine that Bill Lawry is now 75 years of age. Whenever
he embraces the commentary box, he almost always commentates with the same flare and zeal that he used to when he first started off as a media pundit. Seldom does he disappoint his viewers.
Bill Lawry can not only be considered as an eccentric, effusive or zealous commentator only. He is also one of cricket’s most intelligent experts, as he has that gifted ability to analyze the game and decipher the proceedings to the point of coming up with
prophetic predictions. Much to the delight of Lawry, many of his predictions often hold true, as the outcomes of various games materialize in the way that he usually envisions them. His appreciation for quality cricket from the opposition is also commendable
and stands in stark contrast to some of his contemporaries, who often tend to go overboard in their praise for the Australian cricket team. Lawry however begs to differ as he is one of the few men who would consider a breathtaking innings from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ST-Jayasuriya-c2567
to be as rewarding as an experience as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 if they are below par or fail to make inroads into the opposition.
He however, will not be known as a vociferous critic of teams and is known to keep his feelings and negative emotions intact. His only guilty pleasure however, would be that he tends to be biased towards his native state of Victoria. His undue praise for his
native state however, is more sarcastic than meaningful and many of his critics acknowledge that.
