Bill Mott works his Breeders’ Cup bound runners at Belmont Park
Trainer Bill Mott, who won last year’s Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic last year with Drosselmeyer, is hopeful that he can repeat the same feat, and on the back of such a grand victory the veteran trainer is confident going into the World Championships this
year.
Bill Mott, also won the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic with Royal Delta, and he swept the two most difficult races of the Breeders’ Cup last year. This year, Mott is preparing Royal Delta to do Ladies’ Classic double.
Besilu Stables’ Royal Delta has had a pretty good 2012, and since she landed her first grade 1 victory of the season, Bill Mott is confident of winning the Grade 1, $2 million Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic for the second time in a row.
He took Royal Delta out at Belmont Park on 13 October, 2012, and she zipped half-mile in 47.45 seconds, and was rated as the second best out 48 workers at the distance. According to Mott, Royal Delta is on the right track to defend her 2011 title.
Bred in Kentucky by Palides Investments, the 4-year-old filly by Empire Maker is currently exiting victory in the Grade 1 Beldame Invitational at Belmont Park, where she defeated the rampant It’s Tricky to take the 1 1/8 mile test on 29 September.
In June, she won the Grade 2 Fleur De Lis Stakes at Churchill Downs and then downed the Grade 2 Delaware Handicap at Delaware Park.
Bill Mott is keen to defend his Breeders’ Cup Classic 2011 title, and the Hall of Fame trainer is pointing three of his best to do just that for him.
The 5-year-old son of Full Mandate, Ron the Greek is one of them, as he prepared for the $5 million event by turning in half-mile in 48.25 seconds in company with the juvenile stablemate, Armor.
Mott will also be represented by Flat Out, and To Honor and Serve in the Classic, as To Honor and Serve also went half-mile in 47 seconds flat, while Mott was contend with galloping Flat Out the main track.
"He's just a fast horse," Mott said of To Honor and Serve, a son of Bernardini.
