Bill Parcells not going to Minnesota Vikings - NFL News
With reports of former National Football League (NFL) coach Bill Parcells looking to come out of retirement and taking over the New Orleans Saints other franchises have also jumped at the opportunity to snap the legendary coach from the jaws of the Saints.
A New York Post report citing sources on Tuesday claimed that the Minnesota Vikings are in line for Parcells with owner Zygi Wilf ready to offer the 70-year-old full control over the franchise.
However, recent reports coming out from sources close to the Vikings have revealed that there is no truth to the rumours and they are not looking to get Parcells in for the role of head coach.
The Vikings ended the 2011-12 season 3-13 as they just about managed to equalise their franchise worst season record under coach Leslie Frazier.
The New Orleans Saints remain in pole position to bring Parcells as head coach after Sean Payton received a one year suspension from the league following the Saints bounty scandal.
Parcells in a previous interview acknowledged contacts from the Saints and Payton and said that if New Orleans wanted his help he was prepared to give it.
The Saints received severe punishments from the NFL after it was revealed that the franchise was involved in running an illegal pay-to-injure program.
Payton was accused of knowing about the program and lying to league investigators earlier about its existence.
The NFL slapped a one year suspension on Payton while also suspending general manager, Mickey Loomis and assistant coach, Joe Vitt for eight and six games respectively.
All three will be allowed to appeal their sentences on Thursday at the league’s headquarters in New York although it looks unlikely that any decision would be overturned.
Parcells has a legendary status in the league. The 70-year-old had won two Super Bowl championships with the New York Giants and also helped in turning around the fortunes of New England Patriots, New York Jets and the Dallas Cowboys.
The future Hall of Famer’s arrival at Minnesota looked highly unlikely from the start and it is highly likely that Parcells will end up at New Orleans, a move with which NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, has no problem with.
