Bill Parcells out of running for New Orleans Saints head coaching role - NFL News
New Orleans Saints will not be led by retired former coach, Bill Parcells in the 2012-13 season according to sources as he prefers to remain in retirement.
Parcells name had been thrown around regularly ever since the Saints head coach, Sean Payton received a year’s suspension from the National Football League (NFL) for not stopping the Saints bounty program.
With the 70-year-old remaining in retirement, New Orleans will look for an interim replacement from their own coaching staff with assistant coach, Joe Vitt being on top of the list to take over the role.
Vitt too received a six-game suspension from the league and during that period the team will be led by other assistants.
The assistant coach had taken over the role of head coach last year too during Payton’s recovery from a broken leg.
That period saw New Orleans continue their momentum in the season and the team ended the regular season with a brilliant 13-3 record.
NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell on Monday dismissed appeals filed by Payton, Vitt and general manager, Mickey Loomis over their suspensions.
Payton will not be available to coach or communicate with the team for an entire year while Loomis and Vitt will miss eight and six games respectively.
A NFL spokesman speaking about the head coach’s suspension said.
"[He is] not allowed to engage in any coaching activities. Roger [Goodell] commented on that at the league meeting press conference, saying he's not naïve enough to think there won't be some contact, but [Payton's] not allowed to coach from home ... If a
player has a baby, can he call to congratulate him? I don't think we're going to worry about that, or have a wiretap on his phone."
The franchise was revealed to have run an illegal bounty program for three seasons including their 2009 Super Bowl victory with players being paid for injuring and knocking out opponents from the game.
The New Orleans Saints will hope that the team’s performance on the field will not be affected too much by the suspensions and they can rely on other coaches to take up the baton of leadership and give the Saints a chance to reach the Super Bowl XLVII which
will be played at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
