Bill Parcells puts end to rumours of taking over head coaching role at New Orleans Saints, confirms retirement
Bill Parcells on Wednesday, confirmed rumours that he is out of the running for the New Orleans Saints head coaching role as he prefers to stay in retirement.
The news comes just a day after sources revealed that the retired former head coach does not want to get back in the hot seat and now with the 71-year-old confirming the rumours the Saints will have to look for someone else to take over the role.
Parcells in an interview with ESPN said that he is happy with retirement and never had any inclination to take over the Saints coaching role.
"I've been out quite a while now. I have another life. I'm very happy with that,"
Adding further he said.
"In my mind, I didn't really feel an inclination to do that,"
He also said that he met with Saints general manager, Mickey Loomis but they just played golf and did not talk much about taking over the job.
"We didn't speak too much about the job."
Parcells last coached in 2006 before retiring and is a future Hall of Famer. The 71-year-old has had stints with the New York Giants with whom he won two Super Bowls before moving on to New England Patriots, New York Jets and the Dallas Cowboys.
His name was the first mentioned in relation to taking over the job when the NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell suspended head coach Sean Payton for an entire year for his role in the Saints bounty scandal.
With Parcells staying in retirement it is likely that New Orleans will turn to an internal solution to take over the role for the interim with assistant coach, Joe Vitt the number one candidate for the job.
Vitt too must spend the first six games of the 2012-13 season in suspension and in that period one of the three Saints coordinators will take over the head coaching job.
The Saints bounty scandal is going to have a massive effect on the upcoming season as the franchise continues to wait over the NFL’s decision to hand down fines and suspensions to the 22 to 27 players that were involved in taking money for making hits on
opponents.
