Bill Polian keeps Colts’ quarterback Peyton Manning on active roster to boost come back – NFL News
Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback Peyton Manning will continue to have his name on the active roster list. Colts Vice Chairman Bill Polian has made plans to have Manning’s name on the active roster throughout this season though it
seems that the only likely activity Manning would be able come up with is practice. Polian is hopeful that the four times NFL MVP would be in the field before the season has ended.
"I think it's important for him to feel like, 'Hey I'm back, I can do the things that are necessary to say I can play like I want to,' " Polian said earlier on Monday.”The bottom line is he needs to feel good about being back and
doing the things he wants to do."
Polian wants Manning back in practice and by keeping him on the active roster, he wants to ensure his comeback. Manning has signed a five-year deal amounting to $90 million deal with the Colts this July. Polian is clearly upset
at how things are progressing for the Colts and feels fans would feel the same way.
"I think people have a right to be frustrated, or the right to be angry. I’m angry, to be truthful with you," Polian said. "We are a team that does things incorrectly repeatedly” Polian added.
On the other hand, Jim Irsay seems suggesting over the internet that Manning may be in a game this season. The Colts owner expressed his hope on social networking site, Twitter.com that Manning might still play in a game this season.
But he said that Manning won’t play until he is fully fit.
Coach Jim Caldwell said on Monday that Manning was making progress. Manning out with a neck injury has not been seen much during the practice session since January this year. Manning underwent neck surgery in May to repair an injured
nerve that was hindering his power at throwing. Contrary to everybody’s expectation he did not recover in time and went to miss all the four preseason games.
Manning then had another surgery performed making it his third neck surgery in less than two years. This time it was forefront spinal fusion. The quarterback was predicted to not be able to practice for two months. However, soon
after Manning has been sighted in the practice fields attending meetings. He has been giving advice to his teammates.
Injuries have hit the Colts hard with three opening-day starters being replaced. If the Colts manage the No. 1 draft pick, it is likely they will pick up Andrew Luck as Manning's replacement.
