Billi Facundo Godoy easily overcomes Carlos Manuel Baldomir to defend his WBC title – Boxing News
Billi Facundo Godoy, the current WBO Latino middleweight champion, successfully defended his gold for the first time against the heavily experienced fellow country man and former WBC welterweight champion, Carlos Manuel Baldomir, by collecting an impressive
unanimous decision in a 10-round bout held on April 14, 2012.
The ring for the bout was stretched at Estadio Ruca Che Neuquen situated in Neuquen, Argentina and the above bout headlined the Saturday night show. The event was promoted by Osvaldo Rivero of O.R. Promotions and the pay-per-view was co-headlined by the
clash between Juan Alberto Godoy and Jorge Daniel Miranda.
Billi was entering in his first title defence bout and boasted an impressive resume with 24 wins in 24 bouts and no losses. In addition to the long win streak, he is also the owner of the Argentina (FAB) middleweight and WBO Latino middleweight titles and
also not only held the WBC FECARBOX middleweight title but defended it as well against several pugilists.
Also known as ‘The Kid’ or ‘El Nino’, the 25-year-old recently fought Luciano Silva and collected an impressive first round technical knockout win to engrave his name over the vacant WBO Latino middleweight and interim WBC Latino middleweight titles.
His opponent, Carlos, overshadowed Billi heavily by just one facet, experience. Manuel, also known as the ‘Tata’, was entering in his career’s 68th bout and boasted huge 48 wins. The 40-year-old Argentinean lacked the knockout ability and was able to collect
just 14 of his total wins by KO as compared to Billi’s 13.
The veteran Carlos was on a three-bout win streak and was coming from a unanimous decision win over experienced Ruben Silva Diaz. The odds were clearly in favour of Billi since his resume boasted an intimidating win streak with wins over many big names and
ownership of many titles.
In addition, the young lad was backed by his hometown crowd and had the agility advantage over the old Carlos. Billi was the one who started the things off and controlled the initial pace of the bout.
But this did not go for long since Carlos’ experience came in handy and he started to predict Billi’s jabs eventually blocking them and countering them with his own right-left combinations.
The duo gave everything they had in their bodies and strived extremely hard to nail the other one via knockout. The half-hour extravaganza ended and all the three judges unanimously denoted Billi as the champion and the owner of the WBC Latino middleweight
gold.
With this win by the scores of 99-91, 97-93, and 98-93, Billi now has a 25-bout win streak with three titles in his possession. Carlos, on the contrary, has collected his career’s 14th loss and now should seriously think of hanging in the gloves.
