I'm moving in my first home on the 12 of september

just wondering how the bills will work out (e.g. gas and electric) will they charge me for half a month at the end of the month or add it on to my first full months payment I will be paying monthly direct debit

  1. Hi

    Once the agreement has been signed, either the agent or landlord will have taken readings of gas and electric and contacted the relevant companies, including the council tax, water and any phone companies. But if I was you, I would take your own readings and contact the companies, just to ensure everything is ok.

    You will then be billed from that day, you can set up monthly payments for most utilities, then at least you know you will not get a huge bill.

  3. Generally, the utilities are read on a certain date when a new resident will be assuming responsibility for them. That would be 9/12 in this case. Typically, they need to hear from both the new and old residents in order to make the arrangements.

    Then, the old resident will get a final bill through 9/12 and you will get a bill with the usage from 9/12 to whenever the account cycles.
