Bills’ Ryan Fitzpatrick receives support from Head Coach Chan Gailey – NFL News
As for now Buffalo Bills’ quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has finally found some solace after taking in a mountain full of criticism. The support comes from the Bills Head Coach Chan Gailey who said that Ryan needed to play with more
consistency.
Gailey said that Ryan’s performance was the not the biggest challenge for the Bills and added that the whole team in fact needed to be more “consistent”.
Fitzpatrick underwent one of his career’s worst performances last Sunday which the Bills lost 37-10 to the Chargers. Fitzpatrick went for two interceptions in the game. The hoard of criticism followed due to the reason that both
these interceptions were converted by the Chargers into countdown. The second touchdown in particular hurt the Bills the most. Fitzpatrick completed 13 of 34 passes; a mere 38.2 percentage which was the lowest in his career as a quarterback.
However, Gailey seemed correct when he said that the entire team needed to show results. The injury plagued team have come down to 5-8 amid an end to their playoff chances. Bills defence has conceded an average of 32 points in
the last six games. Their line up has been battered by nine players falling prey to season ending injuries. In such a scenario it wouldn’t be correct to single out Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick agreed with the critics that he had shown up a poor show lately which he said was obvious but added that the team still had confidence in him.
“It’s not the first bad game I’ve ever had. But I’ve had plenty of good ones, and I’ve rebounded from my poor performances.” Fitzpatrick said.
Fitzpatrick will have an opportunity again to deliver this Sunday when he faces the Miami Dolphins at his home.
Gailey said that he had no questions about Fitzpatrick whom he said could deliver. He denied Ryan’s performance being the biggest problem and said that once they began working with everybody on the team, Fitzpatrick would be just
fine.
"He missed a couple that he normally hits, but he made some great throws. I talked with the whole team about consistency.” Gailey said.
In the past six games, Fitzpatrick threw for 1,274 yards and went down for nine interceptions with just six touchdowns.
"Unfortunately, the last six games, we've had a lot more questions than answers. It's something we're going to continue to try to figure out." Fitzpatrick said.
However in the absence of running back Fred Jackson and centre Eric Wood, it is most unlikely that the Bills offense and hence Fitzpatrick can deliver.
