Bills gone into collections and how it affects you credit?

i had 2 medical bills that went into collection. i've already paid those. i also had 2 medical bills that almost went into collection. i'm currently paying on those. how bad will these affect my credit?

  1. Medical bills will only effect your credit if the collection agencies report them to the credit bureaus.  If you are paying on them they will not report these debts to the credit bureaus.  So it will have no effect on your credit score.

  2. Any time accounts go to collections and are reported to the credit bureaus it hurts your score even if you pay them because of the fact that they are public records and will continue to show on your report.

    And just so you will know medical collections are not a violation of any Federal laws because they do not release any of your medical information.

  3. do some research and try and dispute the 2 collection accounts of your credit report... MANY medical collections reporting are a violation of HIPPA...
