Billy Butler helps Kansas City Royals crush Minnesota Twins 10-5 – MLB Update
Billy Butler put up another powerful performance as Kansas City Royals annihilate the Minnesota Twins 10-5 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Wednesday, September 12 in second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular
season.
After the Twins took the early 3-0 lead, Salvador Perez connected for a solo home-run to left centre in the fourth inning to put Kansas City on the board. Alcides Escobar also had a decent time on the plate as he singled to right in the fifth inning to reduce
Twins’ lead to 2-3.
Alex Gordon singled to left centre and Billy Butler singled to deep left in the fifth to put Royals 5-3 ahead. Lorenzo Cain earned an RBI single to right Escobar singled to left in the eighth to keep the Twins on the defensive.
"I just think it's good for our young guys to get confidence. I think every year I've been here we've had good Septembers, but we got a good August and September," Butler said. "Outside of a 12-game losing streak earlier in the season we've played really
good baseball. ... We've been really consistent after that, and it's something we can build on in the offseason and it might make us ready sooner."
Gordon reached on fielder’s choice to second and Butler singled to left to help Royals end the game on an aggressive note.
Royals’ starting pitcher Luke Hochevar gave up five runs on six hits in five solid innings to grab his eighth win of the season. Relief pitchers Tim Collins, Kelvin Herrera and Francisley Bueno combined to pitch four scoreless innings to ensure Royals reach
home safely.
"He hasn't won a game in his last seven starts and I wanted to get him over that hump," manager Ned Yost said of Hochevar.
Royals dominated their American League Central Division opponents in series opener and they continued to play aggressively in Game to take a decisive 2-0 series lead. Royals’ batters, in particular, have been in hot form over the last few weeks and they
continued the fireworks on Wednesday to help their side secure a comfortable victory.
