Billy Butler hit a three-run homer on Thursday, September 15 to help the Kansas City Royals beat the Chicago White Sox 7-2 at Kauffman Stadium to take the series 3-1.
Melky Cabrera had a home-run coupled with four hits to contribute to the team’s victory. At a time when Mike Hochevar was down for the remaining part of the season, Jeff Francis pitched a wonderful six innings spell to only give up two runs in the game.
Mark Buehrle of the Chicago White Sox remained disappointing for the team for his expensive innings whereby he allowed 15 hits and gave up seven runs which took his ERA to 3.74. He only had one strike-out.
Cabrera homered to start the game for the Royals followed by a single of Salvador Perez that doubled the lead for the team. Alexei Ramirez had a single in the third to bring the lead down to 2-1 but the Royals responded.
Yamaico Navarro singled to left to take the lead to 3-1 in the fifth while Billy Butler had a three-run homer in the sixth to put the Kansas City Royals in the driving seat after Tyler Flowers hit a single in the top of the sixth, taking the score to 6-2.
Louis Coleman replaced Francis and pitched a shut-out seventh while Mark Buehrle was subject to another hit by Yamaico Navarro to give the team a safe 7-2 lead by the end of the bottom of the seventh.
Coleman had another shut-out in the eighth while Josh Kinney proved a better relief pitcher after a disaster by Buehrle. Aaron Crow came as the closer for the Kansas City Royals and allowed only a hit in the scoreless inning to put an end to the game with
a 7-2 win and the series victory by 3-1.
The Royals put in a brilliant performance as they managed to dominate the game early and score some important runs. The White Sox will be disappointed as they were unable to contain the powerful Royals’ offence. It will be interesting to see how the Royals
carry their winning momentum into their next match-up.
