Billy Butler shines as Kansas City Royals defeat Boston Red Sox 4-3 - MLB Update
Kansas City Royals’ designated hitter, Billy Butler had a remarkable day with the bat as he went 1-for-4 with an average of .294 and hit one home-run with three RBIs in the Royals’ 4-3 win against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, Boston on July 28.
Alex Gordon flied out to right-field, Mitch Maier struck-out swinging and Butler popped out to first base during the first inning of the game, without providing any run to the Royals. Similarly, in the second inning, the batters were wobbled with the bat
as David Ortiz grounded out to first base, Josh Reddick flied out to centre-field and Drew Sutton grounded out to second base.
Red Sox batters posted two consecutive runs in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. Jason Varitek and Yamaico Navarro both added two runs collectively when Jacoby Ellsbury singled off right-field. On the other hand, the Royals’ batters stepped on the gas
during the fourth inning to explode four quick runs and went ahead 4-2.
Butler struck a three-run homer (412 feet) towards centre-field while Gordon and Maier both scored two runs jointly. The fourth and last run for the Royals was taken by Jeff Francoeur when Mike Moustakas drove a double-run shot towards deep right-field.
The pitchers limited the shots of the batters from the fifth to seventh inning and got them out on tricky pitches.
Royals’ starter, Luke Hochevar was little bit shaky with his pitching as he gave up two earned runs and one walk in his seven inning pitches. He allowed two runs on six hits with an ERA of 5.15 and struck-out six batters on his 103 pitches.
Francoeur said, “Good thing there's no Green Monster in right field, or we'd be talking about a 5-4 Red Sox win. That's why I put my head down and just started running. ... I wasn't worried about catching it. I was thinking about getting back to the wall.”
In the eighth inning, the Red Sox were able to add just one run to reduce their lead 4-3. Dustin Pedroia hit a one-run homer (348 feet) towards left-field to put the last run of the game. In the ninth inning, the batters failed to contribute any run. With
this tough win, the Royals were able to tie the four-game series 2-2.
