Well another very interesting matchup.

Billy Conn, 63-11-1- 15 kayo's

Notable wins: Gus Lesvenich,Fritzie Zivic,Vince Dundee,Tony Zale. Had Joe Louis beaten on points going into the 13th round but went for the kayo, but was kayoed himself.

James Toney 70-6-3 43 kayo's Notable wins: Michael Nunn, Iran Barkley, Mike McCallum, Evander Holyfield.

Both fighters are/were as tough as nails, had great defense Conn's being his speed,Toney his awkward style. And beat some great fighters in their careers.

Conn is known most for his near win over Louis than his accomplishments as a great Lighheavy champ.

I see it as Conn boxing smoothly and using the whole ring against a much harder punching Toney.

If Toney can pin Conn he will knock him out, but if Conn who came within 9 minutes from beating an alltime great in Louis can stay on his toes and use his advantage in speed he would win a decision.

I have to respectfully disagree with gannoway's opinion of James Toney, in fact I consider James one of the very best of his era and every bit as great as Conn.  In fact James Toney's career accomplishments surpass Conn's.  Had Conn not nearly beaten Joe Louis, Toney would clearly be the superior of the two.  At is stands, Toney did win a portion of the heavyweight title, something Conn failed, albeit in spectacular fashion to obtain.

I think the light hitting Conn would have his hands full with Toney, and James would take a decision over Billy in a great fight.
