Billy Dib, Eduardo Escobedo put streaks on the line, jar for IBF featherweight gold – Boxing news
The featherweight division of International Boxing Federation (IBF) is organising a bout between the current featherweight champion, Billy Dib, and the Latino featherweight title owner, Eduardo Escobedo, on March 7, 2012.
The event, which will also witness the clash between two heavy-duty middleweights Daniel Geale and Osumanu Adama, will be televised live from Derwent Entertainment Centre. The Tasmanian Arena will see the two featherweights fighting hard to prove who’s the
real champion.
Billy Dib, infamous as Billy the Kid, will take full advantage of the home conditions and will try his level best to pin an equally experienced opponent. Billy has entered the squared ring a total of 35 times and has emerged victorious in 33 bouts. He has
a knockout ratio of 57.14 percent, which he secured by blanking out 20 competitors.
The Kid captured the IBF title by beating Jorge Lacierva after collecting a unanimous decision for his corner of the ring. The Australian lad is just 26, and at this young age has secured the number eight position in the world featherweight rankings.
On the other hand, his opponent is also a fierce pugilist who has also gone through a total of 35 brawls, winning 33 of them. The lethal aspect of the 27-year-old Mexican is his knockout percentage. He has knocked out a total of 23 opponents, securing a
respectable ratio of 65.71 percent. Apart from that, the Mexican is considered as the third best featherweight in his home land, residing at the ninth position, just after his current opponent in the world rankings.
Billy Dib who is preparing for this bout energetically commented about his Mexican opponent and said, “When you get a Mexican, you always have a good fight … they have that warrior mentality. Unfortunately for him he is coming up against someone who is willing
and determined. I’ve got the title and he is not taking it anywhere.”
The upcoming March 7 bout will also have both pugilists’ huge winning streaks on the line. Billy and Eduardo both bear more or less similar histories. The two men have won 11 bouts in continuity; Billy is undefeated since 2009 and Eduardo has not witnessed
a defeat since 2008.
