Billy Horschel takes lead after round two suspended at the True South Classic
Billy Horschel fired a bogey-free nine-under par 63 for a 13-under total of 131 and the outright lead before the bad light that suspended the play on day two of the True South Classic on Friday, July 20, 2012.
Horschel got off to a brilliant start on the back nine of the Annandale Golf Club, as he managed to go four-under for the round with the help of two birdies and an eagle to end his first nine.
Thereafter, he kept his momentum going into the front nine and recorded another three birdies and an eagle to finish one stroke off the course record.
"I hit it really good, there's no doubt about it,” said Horschel, who is looking forward to record his first PGA Tour victory.
“I made some putts -- I'll tell you what. I'm not lying to you guys out there. There's five putts out there that should have went in. So I shot 9 under. It should have been 13. I'm not BS'ing you at all”.
“Hit a good shot into number 18 for eagle, five feet. Then I hit another good shot into number 5 for eagle, about six, seven feet. When you make those, you make up a lot of ground in a hurry,” he added.
He currently has a one-stroke lead over Matt Bettencourt and the overnight leader Jason Bohn. However, Bohn still has a chance to replace him on top of the leaderboard, as he still has nine holes left for the second round.
Horschel now has a great chance of improving his track record on the PGA Tour, as he never succeeded in recording a top-10 finish in the 2012 season.
He made a total of 10 starts and finished among the top-25 only once — tied for the 24th position at the Travelers Championship.
Therefore, a clubhouse lead right in the middle of round two will give him a boost while entering the weekend in Madison.
In the meantime, the defending champion Chris Kirk shared the sixth position after carding a four-under par 68 for a nine-under par halfway score.
