Billy Mayfair is not the oldest iron hitter in the Orange County

After twenty two years, Billy Mayfair steps back into the land of trying wins and demanding green, the Q school.
According to recent reports, the forty four year old appeared at the ultimate round of the qualifying school today. The last leg of the qualifying school began today from the 1st of December and is schedule to continue
till the 6th of this month.
The arduous 108-hole sprint thus started on Wednesday at the Orange County National with a bunch of oldies golfing.
Mayfair has won the PGA Tour 5 times in count and said that he feels a bit odd competing against golfers who are half his age.
According to the forty four year old, he also feels a bit old too and hopes that he could perform well in the six rounds of the last leg. The revelation was made on one bright sunny day on the practice greens of the Q school.
“I will try to play a good game and see what happens in the coming rounds” Mayfair said.
But Mayfair doesn’t need to feel that old because a guy 2 years older than Mayfair is also playing the ultimate round of the 3 rounded qualifying trek. Guy Boros is also playing the Q school deciding round and is 6 days older than
Lee Janzen, the forty six year old.
Coming over to the forty four year old; he decided to play at Q school right after he attained the 142nd place on the money list in 2009. He holds a total dollar amount of 18 million and knows that only 125 in the money list are
known to be fully exempt for 2011.
Therefore from the grouping of 126-150 eligibility, he may be moving up the pecking bid.
Mayfair explained his decision and said that he will be playing for 7 or 8 starts that will make a huge difference between a long holiday spell as compared to one more expedition to the qualifying school.
“I’m here to play a good game golf, obtain confidence and sharpen up my skills for 2011” Mayfair said.
With regard to his strategy for the GC, the forty four year old golfer said that it was all about how one putts throughout the week. Mayfair said that the golf club is stretched to the limit, which means that most of the golfers
would be aiding their game with 6 irons. But Mayfair begs to differ, according to him, he would be focuses on using 3-irons and 4-irons hitting more than the badnwagon 6.
