Billy Morgan not ready to take on the big guns of snowboarding yet
The person responsible for sending the entire snowboarding community into a state of awe last week by pulling off the sport’s first triple back-side rodeo, Billy Morgan, has no set plans for capitalising on his new-found fame as yet.
The young British prodigy feels that he still needs to go a long way before acquiring the skills to take on the heavy-weights of snowboarding. While he is hopeful of rising to that level at sometime in the future, he has no intention of rushing it and will
focus more on his training.
The 22-year-old rider hailing from Southampton admits that he has not been receiving too many chances to compete against the professional snowboarders as he had not been on the circuits that much. However, he has received the invitation to his first major
competition, O’Neill Evolution, which is part of the Swatch Ticket to Ride (TTR) World Snowboard Tour. Morgan currently ranks 380th on the tour rankings.
Morgan recently joined the British team at the start of the current season to become part of a relatively more structured training programme. It had been this training programme that had brought him to Keystone, Colorado, where he had made history by pulling
off the momentous trick that brought him so much recognition in a matter of days.
While many people who have come to know of the British rider and his accomplishment are of the opinion that he may be nothing more than a one-trick wonder, the multi-Winter X Games Slopestyle gold medallist from Britain, Jenny Jones, believes that Morgan
is much more than that. According to the 31-year-old rider, Morgan carries the potential and enthusiasm to make a real solid impact in competitions in the near future, though he is still in the training phase for now.
Morgan fancies himself as a natural Big Air rider due to a number of technical tricks in his arsenal. However, he is hopeful of making himself ready for the slopestyle contests by putting the tricks together for an effective run.
It would be interesting to see if and when Morgan brings the triple back-side rodeo to the competition and whether the addition of the trick to his arsenal gives him a significant edge over his rivals.
