Billy Slater cautious of St. George Illawarra Dragons on Friday night’s clash
Billy Slater of Melbourne Storm, who is marching into his 200th first grade game on Friday, August 19, against the Dragons at AAMI Park said today that the opponents of the clash ahead hold a lot of potential despite their four consecutive defeats and should
not be taken casually.
According to Slater, “If you're going to write the Dragons off now you're a game man and I certainly wouldn't be doing it. They're a great side and always a tough side to come up against. You only have to look back a couple of weeks when they played Souths
and that first 20 minutes (when they led 20-0 before losing the match) was outstanding.”
Slater further mentioned that he expects Dragons to exhibit their true potential and admitted that they have the ability to do that easily.
Cooper Cronk will be sitting outside the match on account of injured foot whereas Gareth Widdop and Maurie Blair will be playing in the Friday night’s clash.
Slater also mentioned that that he has never played even a single game without Cronk until now but with players like Widdop and Blair he will be able to reign in the on-field situation
While speaking about the players he is counting on for the Friday’s clash, Slater stated, “But we've got guys like Gareth Widdop who have really stood up for us this year and Maurice Blair hopefully he'll come up for the game as well.”
He further added that Cameron Smith is also capable of moving away from the halves and fill in for the outsides.
While talking about his franchise’s latest feat, of levelling up the record of winning eleven consecutive games, Slater said that what is more important to him what their club can achieve in a couple of months’ time.
Therefore, what stands at the end of this long run is more important to him and in order to achieve it football at the best needs to be played by them over a course of three weeks. Having that said the primary focus is on the Friday’s game, which needs to
aced by his squad.
