Billy Slater of Melbourne Storm is to join 200 games clan of his club
On Friday, August 19 at the AAMI Park against the Dragons, Billy Slater of Melbourne Storm will reach the 200th game landmark for his Club.
With this milestone under his belt, he will be the third player of Storms to reach this level. Many analysts label him as one of the finest full backs ever to have played Rugby League.
Slater has advanced into his career as an exceptionally accomplished player, with State of Origin, Golden Boot Award, Series victories and Clive Churchill Medals already under his belt.
His splendid career profile has gained him popularity amongst the masses as one of the most able full back who had ever surfaced in the rugby world. Unaware of what future beholds for him in terms of milestones and accomplishments that will stud his profile,
he is nonetheless proud of his achievements and has extended his stay with the club until 2015.
While speaking about his future, Slater added that he had never planned out his future but always wished to be part of the first-grade games and to represent at the National Rugby League level.
Talking about the opportunity which was laid down in front of him by Storm’s coach, Craig Bellamy, Slater added, “I certainly fell on my feet when I got an opportunity down here in Melbourne under Craig Bellamy. He instils a great work ethic in his players
and I’m no different so I’m certainly appreciative of what he’s done for my career.”
He further shared that when he was taken on board back in 2002, he hardly knew what a splendid career he was about to unveil. Slater was not even confirmed a full-time spot on the squad.
However, it was after a lot of hard work during the pre-season time that he was able to cement a spot for himself with the Storms along with another player, Dallas Johnson, for the 2003 season.
While speaking about his distinguished achievement, Slater added, “I wasn’t too sure what was in store for, but to play 200 games and to be able to stay down here for nine years now is something I’m very proud of and hopefully I’m down here for a lot longer
to come.”
