I am insure how to express the following genotypes so i can do a cross.

could someone please help.

In gunie pigs, a coat colour gene has the alleles

CY = yellow

CW = white

Heterozyotes are cream in colour.

I dont know how the heterozygous would be expressed.

Thank you.

  1. Your problem is that you have written the alleles incorrectly. An allele is described by a single letter, not two letters - so you should have removed the letter "C" from your description. This would leave: Y = yellow and W = White.

    Therefore:

    YY =  yellow phenotype (homozygous)

    WY or YW = cream phenotype (heterozygous)

    WW = white phenotype (homozygous)

  2. In gunnie pigs the coat colour is expressed by the gene Y . Homozygous for coat colour is YY. When the coat colour is white then it is homozygous for both the alleles so it is expressed either as  WW.

    When it is heterozygous means it is cream colour then it is YW.
