Question:

Bindings: Angles and Stance Width?

by  |  earlier

I'm 5'7" and 125 lbs. I have a Rome Blue 151 and Burton Stiletto Medium bindings. I am a goofy intermediate freerider.

What angles should I put my boots at?

What should my stance width be?

Is the stance width from the centres of the baseplates?

Thanks! :)

  1. Your stance should be a couple inches wider than your shoulders and most advanced freestyle riders have their angles at about 15 or 17 in front and -9 or -12 on the back (i go with 15 and -9. Its best if you have your bindings set only an inch or two back from being centered on the board. good luck!

  2. Your stance width and angles are completely a personal thing.  You need to experiment to find out what suites you best.  As for angles, many intermediate and advanced riders prefer a symmetrical duck stance - equal angles on front and back feet.  Try +12/-12 or +15/-15 to start out with.  A rule of thumb is to not have more than 30 degrees difference between binding angles - so +15/-15 is as ducked as you should go.

Like angels, width is a personal preference.  You will find riders into jibbing will have their stance maxed out - this is not optimal for all of us.  Try this as a start point.  Sit in a chair and have someone measure from the floor to the top of your knee.  Use this as a starting point for stance width.  Go more or less to see if it feels better.

The stance width is measured from center of one binding to the center of the other.

Don't be afraid to experiment to find what suits you the best.

  3. Like the precious said, just experiment and rock whatever stance feels the best to you. I ride a symmetrical stance, +15, -15, just because its easier to ride in switch when i ride away fakie or do  a cab. as a freerider, you probly wont be doing as much switch riding, so i recommend more angle on the front foot than the bak
