Okay, so i'm really stressed. I'm preparing to go through a bankrupcty (possibly) we still haven't spoken to a lawyer yet. I have two kids back to back one from dec. 06 and one currently from dec. 07. I am a stay @ home mom and take care of them all day. It is really stressful and sometimes.....

when the kids are asleep and my hubby is @ home watching them or asleep, I slip away and go to my favorite sub shop and order a chicken finger sub with swiss, blue cheese, lettuce, tomatoe, mayo, and fried onions and deep fried french fries. I know that i need to lose weight but being couped up in a house with no real outlet or real interaction in a new neighborhood with the kids .....thats the only happiness or break you could say I get. And frankly eating that awsome sub is the highlight of my day.

And frankly, thats BAD!!! I shouldn't depend on food...I am just going through a rough time right now but ....isn't this a dangerous habit since I do it alot with all types of food?

  1. It doesnt sound that bad..but if u keep it up it could probably turn out bad...I would say instead of staying inside with your kids take them to the park meet some of the other neighborhood moms do something with them that is fun and enjoyable for everyone it will relieve stress fr you and be a bonding experience with your kids my best wishes to you and your family =]

  2. I can relate to your problem.  When I get depressed I binge eat.

It's very hard to loose weight and the older you get the harder it is.

I need to talk with someone so I go to therapy weekly.  Unfortunately I have very, very few friends.  And they don't understand anyway.

I just try to set my mind to eat fruit, veggies...the better foods and not fattening ones.

    Good Luck!!

  3. WOW, I do the same thing, but I go to the local dairy farm and eat a huge portion of ice cream.  And I am not stressed about anything in particular, it's just the one thing I need to do in the evening after the kids go to bed.  Just so you know, you are not alone.  I understand the craving for the break and the treat.

  4. why dont u try gettin out of the house with ur kids during the day, eg. taking them to a park that way u can meet other mothers. and u wont need to go out at nite to get food as u will have been out during the day.

  5. you have 80% of problem beat!!! do not eat when you are stressed!!

  6. Can I recommend to you that you look into a program like Weight Watchers. The help you deal with stresses in your life that trigger you to overeat. You certainly have reason to be stressed! But, you can learn to manage that stress in a way that is not harmful to your health. I found Weight Watchers to be a tremendous help, the meetings are great and the leaders are inspirational. Check it out.

  7. everyone has vices and can go thru binge eating.  Maybe you could go walk around the mall and then stop off at the food court for at least a few calories less. Also, being at the mall you see the fashions you might want to wear which sometimes motivate a person.  I have binge eating habits at times.  especially when i am stressed or depressed.  Maybe you could meet a friend for  a low cal snack or got to a reading at a bookstore.  just get out of the house and so something other than eat at the sub shop everyday.  tehy're just suggestions.

  8. it is common to binge eat when stressed. Try to find another outlet that you enjoy... maybe a hobbie? It all is easier said then done. Because when you want that yummy sandwich all else goes away........ You can also try buying the ingrediants at the grocery store... low fat version and making it yourself to save on the fat & calories.

  9. Nothing wrong with eating. BUT:

Eat the sub as early in your day as possible.  You'll have the rest of the day to metabolize it.

If you can work out first thing in the morning before going out to eat, you will feel better about rewarding yourself with the sub, and you'll still have the rest of the day with your kids.

Working out might curb your appetite a little, and it will definitely help remove anxiety.  I recommend walking then building up to running.  You'll start craving little runs every day, just like you crave that sub.  You don't believe me, but you will.

DON'T EAT THE FRIES.  It just adds too many calories and no nutrition, that's all.  If you have to have fries, eat them once a week.

What do you eat during the day?  I used to binge 20 years ago.  I was in fantastic shape...excercised hours a day, but I discovered that I binged because I was eating junk food that had no vitamins/minerals, so I was hungry for more.  At my worst, I ate 3 burrito supremes from taco bell, and 6 creme-filled donuts.  In my car.  Lonely.

I started taking vitamin/mineral supplements, and my desire to binge went away fast.

Also, buying the sub early in the day might get you out around more people, as opposed to going out at night to eat.

If you binge in private, then it is time to start only eating around other people.  Don't let yourself eat when you are alone.  Period.  I used to binge alone in my car.

My family is going through a rough time right now too, and I would love to go back to the good old days when I was single, and could pig out on my day off, and lay in bed, and I would never have to answer to anyone.  Now I'm married with 2 babies, and don't have a single minute to myself.

  10. Whenever I get depressed, or just when I'm bored (which is really bad), I eat a lot, and I know I need to stop.  So sometimes I just try to set my mind to only good foods and water.

Your habit may be bad, but if you stopped doing it as often and only did it maybe twice a week, it would not be bad.  Would that be possible for you?  And then the rest of the week, if you go out to get away from it all, order something healthier.

Or if I may suggest something else, on your sub, if the chicken is fried, instead get grilled, and try to see if you can get low-fat mayo on it (I think low fat mayo and regular mayo taste the same, really), and if you can not eat the fried french fries, because they are already potatoes with lots of carbs, but the fried onions are all right as a vice.

I really hope everything works out for you and that any of the suggestions here are helpful to you.  Good luck!!!
