  1. bi meaning two and nomenclatuere meaning name. so basicly bcuz we classify things with two names

  2. Blame Carolous Linneaus.

    Bi-nomial

    Two names

    Genus + specific epithet

Linneaus was a botanist who originally used polynomials to name things - big long latin descriptions. It becamse cumbersome very fast.

  3. It is called Binomial Nomenclature because it is a 2 part scientific naming system based on Latin language. More specifically Bi in Latin means 2 and nomen means name, so that creates some logic. It is in Genus species format where the Genus is capitalized but the species is lower cased. Remember both words are in italics.

  4. Binomial means two names.  An organisms name consists of Genus and species.

    Example: Homo sapiens
