  1. Depends on the car: I run my Nissan Terrano 2.7TD on 60/40 mix of diesel & veg oil, no mods, no problems. If you email me your exact make & model, I'll give you more info.

I use new oil as there's an art to properly cleaning old oil, but that may be the next move.

  2. You can use vegatable oil.

  3. Just watching Quentin Wilson ITV1 - Priced Off The Road ? - apparently converting a diesel engine to accept refined chip fat costs £4 .That's what they said.Drive a diesel myself so this would be of interest but would like to see it again and investigate.

  4. you need to filter out all the impurities out of the chip fat run it through a j cloth or similar then you need to thin the chip fat with a solvent

you then need to buy an in line filter about £4 from your fuel tank

    easy really

  5. A diesel engine will take vegetable oil, but I think that the oil needs purifying. It will become more expensive in the long run, however. And also may leavae behind a residue in the car.

  6. I sure hope you folks over there don't go the bio- diesel route. We have in U.S.A and the use of corn for it has raised prices of food products radically. Now, not only is fuel expensive, so is food. Not to mention, way less than 1% replacement. And we have a whole lot more land to grow corn here than you. Diesel here is over $5 and used to be $1.99  not far back.   I hear a lot of your cost is taxes, our tax is about 50 cents a gallon. It sounds like a mess, filtering it yourself. At that price it might be worth it.  J.G. GOOD ONE! New cooking oil is about 98 cents a liter....and NO messing around with filtering!  Just don't brag about it, the taxman is listening. If you add a filter, plumb it so it will be easy to reach, you may have to change it  a lot. If so, consider putting in a Peterbilt/Kenworth  sized filter, they are about a litre, Assuming there's room. Oh yeah, put some in your freezer to see what it does, it may turn solid in cold weather. I also heard your'e exaust smells like french fries. LOL!

  7. I would see someone at your local garage or ring your car manufacturer up because it could damage your engine. But I read somewhere that you do not have to convert your engine because oil is oil.

But i would see a specialist anyway just incase. And well done for going green.

P.S. There are alternatives like rapeseed oil just in case you are wondering.

try this website - we use veg oil in some of our lorries at work and some of the cars but the mixture has to be right. we are currently looking at buying a large processing plant for the oil so we can produce more bio diesel. it isnt bad for your car so long as you do some research and like i say get the measurements correct.

  9. $13.50 a gallon! Here in Houston, Texas, we're at about $4.00. Well, I've heard that doing that is bad for your car.

  10. hi regardless what anyone says i use 90% chip fan fat from the pub my brother works in.the other 10% just standard diesel...all i do is sieve out the durn chips and pour it in....i run a seat cordoba 19td[same engine as the vw golf]....i have no problems what so ever in running it....

  11. My car has been damaged to the extent of a couple of grand by bio-disel
