Bio fuels, are they the answer to lower food costs, or will they increase prices?

deliverly costs are sky rocketing...

new engins are being developed which allow cars to run on vegetable oil (in deseal engins) and the hydrogen motors

  1. Corn Ethanol is a terrible idea.

    It takes more energy to make biofuel than it produces when in use, so it will require more E85 to do the same job as gasoline. Plus it already puts a strain on the supply of corn which is a major source of nutrition for many peoples, and that's already expensive enough as it is. Plus we can't grow corn fast enough to satisfy our thirst for fuel and manage to feed ourselves/export at the same time. We might not have enough even if we stopped eating corn based products at all.

    There may be a future in Algae produced biofuels, but the current corn trend is a dead end.


  2. Will increase prices. To get vegetable oil, you need to grow the crops you get it from. With more biofuels being made, you need more area to grow the crops for biofuel.

    We arise with a situation where the land formerly used for growing fuel then used for growing biofuel crops. As a result, less food is produced leading to increased fuel prices. (as supply drops, prices rise)
