2K Games has announced that they have “uncovered opportunities” to make the game “extraordinary” and will not be showing the game off at this year’s E3. Oh, it’s also been delayed to 2013...the horror!
It seems that Irrational Games want to make the perfect game with BioShock Infinite and as a result have pushed back the release date for the title till next year.
Ken Levine, who is the creative director of the series, explained that they were confident that the game would release by the end of the year, however, “Since then, we’ve uncovered opportunities to make Infinite into something even more extraordinary. Therefore,
to give our talented team the time they need, we’ve decided to move the game’s release to February 26, 2013.”
Levine then went on to play the “We wanted to let our loyal (and very patient!) fans know this as soon as possible” card, although the news is still likely to disappoint fans of the series.
The game’s creative director went on to explain how the scope and scale of the game was larger and deeper than any other first-person shooter in the market and drew on the similarities between Infinite’s and the original BioShock’s development process, with
special mention of the delays.
He said, “We had a similar experience with the original BioShock, which was delayed several months as our original ship date drew near.”
“Why? Because the Big Daddies weren’t the Big Daddies you’ve since come to know and love” among other things. He continued, “The same principle now applies to BioShock Infinite.”
At the same time, Levine dropped an even more painful bombshell when he apologised for the fact that they would not be showing anything relating to the game at either E3 or GamesCom in the summer and that the next time gamers would see the game would be
when the final version is ready.
Yet, one has to wonder what new opportunities the developers over at Irrational Games have discovered, could it be more interplay between the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, could it be multiplayer or could it simply be better AI and polish? It seems
only time will tell.
