BioWare teases Mass Effect 3 demo and ‘Secret Feature X’, neither fully explained or dated
Staying true to their profession and marketing strategies, BioWare are teasing information about Mass Effect 3 without any shame whatsoever. In the space of a week, the developer announced that not only would a demo be making its way for gamers to try out,
but that a secret feature would also be revealed soon as well.
Showing off a bit of skin here, a bit there, BioWare are doing just enough to keep the gamers’ interest without giving too much away at this point. The demo at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, in Los Angeles, was the only glimpse gamers got of
the upcoming title.
The trailer itself was impressive showing a Reaper that stood well over 50 foot, chasing the games’ protagonist, Sam Shepard and his squad in an on-rails vehicular sequence. The classic Mass Effect gameplay was there for all to see, as was the impressive
visuals and presentation style which have become a trademark for the series.
However, there is a difference between watching a game and playing a game to test it out for oneself, and it seems that BioWare are responding to this call by announcing that a Mass Effect 3 demo is in the pipeline.
Apart from listings on websites and CV’s or job postings on the internet, the other major source for news is Twitter. It was on this social networking site where BioWare had every fan’s mouth watering with the following Tweet, “Stay tuned for news on demo
plans in a few months.”
Yes, it says a few months instead of days or weeks and yes there is nothing definitive apart from the fact that there will be a demo, but for the game slated for a release next year, a demo in the next few months is not too bad.
At the same time however, another Tweet confirmed that the demo would not consist of any multiplayer action but would rather focus on the single player element of the game.
Staying with the tease that is BioWare, the developer also hinted at another piece of information regarding the game with their announcement of ‘Special Feature X’. Obviously BioWare has failed to address the need of a marketing department as the name is
by far the cheesiest thing Bettor.com has heard since the, all too generic, name Alan Wake.
Both Billy Buskell, the assistant producer and Preston Watamaniuk, the lead designer, for Mass Effect 3 tweeted about the feature, without giving anything concrete away.
Watamaniuk claimed he was ‘writing the spec doc for Secret Feature X this morning’. Whatever this Secret Feature X is, it seems BioWare are playing it very close to the chest.
Gamers can find out for themselves what BioWare are on about in the coming weeks as more Mass Effect 3 news becomes available.
