How do i do this?

A strain of bacteria (100 000 cells) was put into a 100ml of growth medium at 10 am. At 4pm the total no. of cells was estimated 5.12 x 10^5 cells per ml. Given a lag phase of 3hr, calculate generation time.

Any good help gets 10 points!

  1. you start with 100,000 cells

    lag phase 3 hours. 6 hours from 10-4 so 3 hours of growing

    512,000 cells in 1ml= 51,200,000 cells in 100ml

    51,200,000/100,000=512

    Bacteria divide into two so 100,000*2^x=51,200,000

    2^x=512  x=9

    180mins in 3 hours so 180/9=20min generation time
