Question:

Biodiesel engine for custom truck project?

My brother gearheads and I are customizing a 1965 Chevy Pickup. It will be a 1 ton dually with an extended cab on a 1988 GMC Chassis. We are planning on using a diesel engine to power it. A two tank fuel system will be installed to use WVO. We are in disagreement on the power plant. A simple, old style, non-computer dependent, mechanical installation is preffered. I am in favor of using a Mercedes 300td.

I was curious if anyone else has experience in this type of project, what engines were used, and if favorable results were achieved.

  1. I saying go for it i run a little old VW 1.6  turbodiesel  to show the power hungry oil shieks we can go w/o there oil and yes it does work well

  2. WVO is not biodiesel.  Please learn the difference before you ruin your truck.

  3. don't you ruin that beautiful creature

  4. Yeah I'm planning a 617 into my Toyota dlx.I use wvo too.Other diesels can't handle it.Mercedes IPs are better made.

  5. It wouldn't be easy or cheap, but a Duramax diesel from a late-model Chev or GMC truck would give a lot better performance and reliability.  The Mercedes engine is too small to put in a one ton truck.
