"Biological or physical anthropology seeks to understand the physical human being through the study of genetics, inherited traits and variations thereof, evolution, adaptation, etc. Subfields or related fields include primatology, nutritional anthropology, and human and population genetics."

thats the definition of the degree and it really interests me, but what kind of job would result in that?

  1. Scared dinosaur is correct, as far as that goes. You could consider a career in biology and go a lot deeper than any anthropologist would go into the subject matter. For instances; population genetics is a branch of genetics. This means that population genetically anthropologist are just receiving the " word " from scientists. You could be the one making the discoveries, or at least playing a part in that. Do you have what it takes to meet the rigor requirements of science? Only you can answer that question.

  2. Depends on how you focus your studies. A BA in physical anthropology is good for teaching biology in high school, getting into nursing or medical school, and probably lots of little specialized jobs that require some knowledge of the human body but done pay much. A graduate degree, however, will open up a lot of new possibilities. Forensic anthropologists end up working in criminology labs, for law enforcement, for governments, and with other anthropologists engaged in different kinds of research. Primatologists are generally research scientists, though they often end up working for wildlife NGOs, zoos, and museums. Nutritional anthropology . . . huh, well, I guess that would make you a nutritionist, hm? Of course, the other big option is to teach at the university or college level, and to pursue research. The kinds of research that physical anthropologists do is widely varied - depending on your focus, you could end up digging up proto-human fossils from East Africa, you could find yourself performing medical research, or you could be engaged in genetics research.
