Explain how the fossil record can assist in understanding biological evolution

  1. Scientists claim atoms are billions of years old, that new life, (living things such as animals, plants, etc., things, such as buildings, machinery are made from atoms of old, therefore isn't everything a billion years old, just recycled as so called new. I've seen fossils, errosion, time can show wear on these images as old or new but really all matter is a billion years old.


  2. The fossil record preserves previous versions of animals and changes that have occurred to a population over time can be observed.

  3. It works a little like a bunch of old family photo albums. You get glimpses of what things were like in the past and how they were associated with other things. You can see what the various members were like at different stages as they develop thru time. Some people are in lots of snapshots so you can really see the gradual change and who their parents were, but old uncle Herbert only has a few pictures from when he was 10 and then a couple from when he was about 90, so it can be kinda hard to tell how he fits in.
