Biology and Daltons Law?

people grow,, babies grow to be old,, cells replicate and become more cells,, for an example : about 30 stem cells in vitro fertilization for 6months become about a million. ,

NOW what i dont get is how can 30 cells become a million ( iknow that it divides by mitosis and all that stuff)/// but how does contents in that 30 cells become more. i mean, didnt dalton say that atoms cannot be made or destroyed. so what happens to those atoms inside that 30 cells. so hw this happens i dont get..,

any help would be very much appreciated.

  1. The cells are taking in nutrients - ever hear that old saying, "You are what you eat?"  Cells can't increase their number and mass without adding in material in  the form of food.

    Yes, even plants use food.  It just happens that they make the food they consume (using raw materials and sunlight, of course).
