Question:

Biology class disections! Yay or nay?

I say yay. I get to dissect a frog, worm, and starfish at the end of the semester. I am SO ecstatic. I've been waiting for this since 7th grade. I kid you not. I don't care if that sounds creepy, I'm deeply interested in this hands-on learning about an interesting topic. There is a girl in my class who has already announced she's going to take a refusal. Wow, I was shocked. How can you pass off this? Learning something so upclose, it's the best thing school offers. Besides, these frogs and other things are already dead and are bred for dissecting. What do you guys think about dissecting? And if you took Biology in highschool, how did you like it? Did you take a refusal? Why? [:

  1. The only thing I got to dissect in high school was a baby pig, group project. I didn't take a refusal because it was group, everyone else got to cut it and prod at it and break bones and stuff.....ugh, I just could not.

  2. Nay. It should be done in college by those really needing such an experience in their lives. How is dissecting a frog going to help me, since I want to be a CPA. I don't need to see the internal structure to appreciate life. There are many similated programs which show such details. Also, if I want to appreciate life, I can listen to the heartbeat of the frog instead. That would help me much better to see that it is a living thing. A dead frog has NO heartbeat.

  3. nay

  4. I share your enthusiasm.  When I was in high school, I took chemistry instead of biology because I didn't want to touch icky stuff.  When I entered college, I majored in art.  My third semester, I was forced to take biology and fell in love!  It was the easiest A I ever made.  I ended up with a degree in biology/chemistry and love what I do.

  5. indifference for the win!
