Biology percentage and frequency?

In a population, 81 percent of the organisms are homozygous dominant, and 1 percent are homozygous recessive. Find the following:

a. the percentage of heterozygotes

b. the frequency of the dominant allele

c. the frequency of the recessive allele

a) p^2   +   2pq  +   q^2 = 1

    

p^2 = 0.81                  

q^2 = 0.01

     1 - 0.81 - 0.01 =  0.18    = 18% heterozygotes

b) p + q = 1

p^2= 0.81

p= 0.9 - frequency of dominant allele

c) p + q = 1

q^2= .01

q= 0.1 - frequency of recessive allele

p + q = 1

.9 + .1 = 1
