Question:

Biology question, why isnt water living?

Why arent...

... water

... wind

...rocks

...soil

living?

I have been working on this for a while, but I cant think of anything that is good enough to turn in. I keep wanting to saw because its water! but that isnt acceptable..

  1. Because all of those things are inorganic.  Meaning that their chemical composition lacks the complex carbon molecules found on living organisms.  


  2. because we define a living than as something that:

    reproduces

    had some form of heredity which is transferred to offspring

    responds to external stimuli


  3. based on life as we know it, something must have carbon to be living.

  4. The only reason that i can think of is that water undergoes many chemical changes, and can not be alive when it does so. I.e., evaporation, condensation, changing from liquid to solid, etc. If it was living ,it wouldn't survive.

    I don't know if it's correct, but that's my guess.
